Access to Electronic Journals

Following publishers provide free online access to journals published by them against print subscriptions of the library. The access is either on the basis of IP [Internet Protocol] address of the library/institute or on the basis of User name and password. Publishers provide online acceess either directly from their homepage or through aggregators. Libraries have to sign for an agreement with the publisher concerned to gain online access. Articles in most cases are availalble in .PDF format.

Archives:
  • African Journals Online
  • Provides free online access to most of the journals published from Africa. Full text of articles will be sent to only those members, who are from non profit making organizations working in selected developing countries, including India.

  • Bioline International
  • Bioline International is a not-for-profit electronic publishing service committed to providing open access to quality research journals published in developing countries including India. As of today it is giving free full text online access to 28 journals.

  • BioMed Central
  • Provides free access to peer-reviewed research articles and subscription-based access to reviews, commentaries and other information services in all the areas of biology and medicine.

  • Directory of Open Access journals
  • Education: Electronic journals
  • Covers scholarly, peer-reviewed, full text and accessible without cost e-jls in the field of Education.

  • Electronic Journals Library
  • Provides comprehensive list of e-journals accessible with cost and without cost in all fields.

  • Engineering e-jls search engine
  • The Engineering E-journal Search Engine searches the full text of over one hundred engineering e-journals, which are listed in the EEVL catalogue of engineering resources. In e-jls selected are free, full text (or offer most of their content as full text) and available without registration.

  • Freefulltext.com
  • Provides direct links to over 7000 scholarly periodicals which allow some or all of their online content to be viewed by ANYONE with Internet access for free (though some may require free registration).

  • Freemedicaljournals.com
  • Lists all such medical journals, which provide online full text access to articles at no extra cost

  • Health Journals: Free for Developing Economies
  • Provides list of journals offer free online access to developing economies, based on either programs such as HINARI, or on a HighWire-based program offering access to countries appearing in the World Bank's list of "low income economies," plus Djibouti. No need to sign up, the site automatically recognises from which country you are accessing.

  • Highwire Press
  • As they claim it is one among the second largest Science archives of full text articles on earth. Here it lists out titles of journals published by different publishers in science, many of them can be accessed online without any extra cost, if the libraries have print subscriptions.

  • Internet Library of Early Journals
  • It is a digital library providing access to 18th and 19th century journals.

  • NAL library: Electronic Journals
  • Lists good number of free of cost e-journals in the area of Science and Technology.

  • NASA Astrophysics Data System
  • Here online access to full text of articles from selected journals in astronomy and related areas can be made without any extra cost irrespetive of libraries subscriptions.

  • NCSI E-jls Collection
  • E-JIS aims to provide desktop access to several free, peer-reviewed electronic journals in Science,Engineering, Technology and Management. Presently, 66 free e-journals have been included in E-JIS database.

  • NewJour
  • It is an archive of new journals and newsletters available on the Internet.

  • PubMed Central
  • PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature, which can be dowloaded free of cost.

  • Provide access to most of their journals through different aggregotrs. Libraries can select aggregator of their choice to gain online access. Access to back issues of journals varies depending upon library subscriptions.

  • Cambridge University Press
  • Access to e-jls is given through their homepage. The years for which access is given depends upon library subscription.

  • Chicago University Press
  • Offers online access through their homepage. Online access for back issues varies from title to title. Right now few titles are available to all i.e subscribers and non-subscribers.

  • Elsevier
  • Elsevier provides online access aginst print subscriptions via web-editions. Access is limited for a period of 12 months. It is for a roll over period of 12 months. Every year based on subscriptions, libraries have to sign an agreement.

  • Institutional Investor
  • Access to all the journals published by them can be had through user name and password and access program. Access for back issues again depends upon library subscriptions

  • John-Wiley
  • Provides online access via Interscience. Access for back volumes of journals depends upon subscriptions.

  • Kluwer Online Gateway
  • Provides access to its collections of scholarly and scientific journals. The access to over 265,000 articles is available from this gateway. Full text access is available only for subscribers, others can access contents and abstracts.

  • M.E. Sharpe
  • Access to selected titles available through aggregator i.e Catchword

  • MIT Press
  • Online access is available to selected titles through aggregator i.e Catchword

  • Oxford University Press
  • Access is given to most the journals published by them.

  • The Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Access is available w.e.f 2001 via aggregator i.e Catchword to most of its journals

  • Sage
  • Provides online access through aggregators. Libraries may choose aggregator of their choice.

  • Springer
  • Online access to journals is given via Link. Access to back issues depends upon library subscriptions.

  • Taylor and Francis Group
  • Many Taylor and Francis journals-including those published by Brunner/Mazel, Carfax, Psychology Press, Routledge, Spon Press and Taylor and Francis are available online via aggregator i.e Catchword

  • University of Wisconsin Press
  • Right now only one title is available online via aggregator i.e Catchword
