Donation/Gift of Books/Journals

Few organizations/associations donate or gift old/used books and back/current issues of journals to institutions/libraries of developing countries. Following are few such sources, which you may please go through for further details.

  • AMS Book and Journal Donation Program
  • American Mathematical Society donates books and journals to currency-poor or developing countries where there is a need for mathematical research literature. Potential recipients from eligible countries (see the list given on site) can browse the list of available items and apply to the AMS for the materials.

  • American Political Science Association Donation Programs
  • APSA annually provides good number of donated subscriptions to American Political Science Review and PS: Political Science and Politics especially in countries with weak or undervalued currencies.

  • APA International Journal Donation Progarm
  • American Psychological Association offers two programs that provide international donations of APA-published and other journals to needy institutions. The programmes are: Free Subscriptions of APA Journals and APA/ICP Book and Journal Donations Program (JDP).

  • American Society for Microbiology
  • Provides list of books and journals available for donation from its members to the institutions/libraries of developing countries. Interested institutions/libraries have to directly contact its members via e-mail given along with the listing.

  • American Society of International Law Journal Donations
  • To promote the study of international law in countries with limited resources and weak currencies, the ASIL annually provides dozens of reduced-rate and free subscriptions of the American Journal of International Law and International Legal Materials.

  • Berkeley Electronic Press
  • The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) makes its current slate of journals freely available to researchers in the developing world. Interested parties who lodge their requests on institutional letterhead are given unrestricted access to the full text of bepress's published articles.

  • Book Aid International
  • Book Aid International works in 18 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Palestine, providing over half a million books and journals each year to libraries, hospitals, refugee camps and schools.

  • Education Aid
  • Education aid programme consists of free provision of books/journals to schools, universities and other institutions in developing countries for use as study and reference material.

  • Metropolitan Central Library
  • Gives list of books/journals/magazines available for donation from its members to the institutions/libraries of developing countries. Interested institutions/libraries have to directly contact its members via e-mail.

  • Scottish Books Exchange
  • It is committed to assisting libraries to offer their unwanted books to other libraries. It also aims to promote inter-library co-operation through a collaborative effort and partnership between all library and information services in all sectors.

  • SIGMOD/VLDB Digital Library Donation Program
  • ACM SIGMOD and the VLDB Foundation have established a joint program to donate database literature to universities in developing countries, with the goal of assisting in the expansion of the database community in those countries. Currently available literature includes SIGMOD's Silver Edition and the SIGMOD 2003 DiSC, both on DVDs.
